Glastonbury celebs in their Hunters

June 29th, 2009

The long awaited weekend of Glastonbury 2009 is over.  All that’s left is the mud, and a line-up of welly-wearing celebs of course.  BBC Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley was spotted in the coveted limited edition Jimmy Choo Hunter wellington - as were Pixie Geldof and Naomi Campbell.

Just as expected, wellies were a must-have after Friday morning’s series of thunder and lightning storms and downpours that turned the festival site into a quagmire.  And the choice of the rich and famous was, as it always is these days, the Hunter boot.  If it wasn’t the much coveted Jimmy Choo then it was the Hunter Original - the de rigeur black was in full force again this year, as photographed in a Posh and Becks style “his and hers” sported by Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts and her boyfriend.  Those watching the proceedings on the BBC yesterday may have also spotted the new metallic gold Hunter boot getting an airing.

Wellies that match your lip gloss!

June 2nd, 2009

The Original Hunter welly has been facelifted numerous times over the last 5 years, first with the introduction of new colours to what had always been produced in its iconic green and navy varieties, then with added sparkle, then with the ‘Festival’ variations - and now with a dazzling high gloss finish.  The new boot, launched this week, is exactly the same as the basic ‘Original’ Hunter wellington boot, but with a polished shine for that extra pazzaz while you’re waiting in queues at Glastonbury in a couple of weeks’ time.

So now there’s no excuse for not glamming it up while you’re tackling the great outdoors!  Our favourites are Gloss Violet and Gloss Lava, but with 5 colours to choose from it’s up to you!

Warehouse Move

May 21st, 2009

We are delighted to report that our long awaited warehouse move is underway this week as we relocate to larger premises.  The move comes as part of our ongoing commitment to improving service to our customers, and will provide us with the means to offer a more efficient service.

We are also implementing various extra facilities that you have requested, such as a showroom and warehouse collection point which are scheduled to be up and running by early August.

In the meantime it’s business as usual - although regretfully we have had to withdraw the express delivery service for a couple of weeks while stock is relocated to the new warehouse - we apologise for this and hope you will understand the need to do so.

If you have any questions or problems please don’t hesitate to contact our customer services team on the usual telephone number: 01772 454910 or email info@wellywarehouse.co.uk and as ever they will be happy to help.

Festival survival: don’t forget wellies and a bicycle pump

May 18th, 2009

The Sunday Times yesterday published its Festival Guide - giving handy hints to anyone planning to attend one of the major music events this Summer.  The summary to survival it seems: “as long as you remember wellies, some sort of rain mac and sunscreen, you’ll be fine” (for a full run-down on survival tips, including why you need a bicycle pump, read the full article by Rebecca Nicholson).

To anyone that went to Glastonbury in 2005, the year the camp sites were wiped out by flash floods, this is surely sound advice.  And even if the forecast is for sunny weather don’t leave things to chance.  Festival Medical Services, a charity which provides medical services at Glastonbury, has 13 festival podiatrists seeing up to 90 cases of Trench Foot a day.  Most cases involve someone who came in trainers or walking boots, who got their feet wet and continued to wear their soggy footwear.

As luck would have it, wellies are actually at the cutting edge of fashion design these days - you can buy them in a massive selection of colours and patterns, and even nowadays with a wedge heel if you don’t like flat shoes - so there’s absolutely no excuse for not taking a pair!  In fact, wellies and festivals are so ‘hand-in-hand’ these days that the TV advert for the Sunday Times Festival guide was in fact a sequence of welly photographs - as simple as that.

The message is quite clear, and every Festival Guide, forum and hardened festival-goer out there will tell you the same thing - if you’re off to a festival this year, simply don’t go without your wellies.

Half price Hunters

May 15th, 2009

Former Tory Treasurer Lord Marland was recently pictured in the Telegraph wearing a pair of Hunter Men’s Short Boots - a popular style launched last year in 4 colours.  Not only is it a bit different if you want to stand out from the crowd, but it’s also incredibly handy for anyone that wants a pair of wellies to wear under jeans, or that struggles to get their calves into a standard pair of Hunter wellingtons.

The range appears to have been a bit of a test-run, and owing to its success Hunter have slightly reinvented the short boot this year and produced it in a much larger range of colours and an increased, unisex size range to appeal to both men and women.

Welly Warehouse are pleased to offer the original range at HALF PRICE to clear remaining stocks.  In all sizes 6 to 12 and four colours (olive green, black, chocolate and navy) this is a genuine bargain!  Prices like these don’t come along all that often, so make sure you stock up!

Gear up for Glastonbury with new Hunter Festival Wellies

April 29th, 2009

After the popularity of the Hunter Festival wellington last summer, this year Hunter have launched a new Festival Welly - this time an exclusive limited edition.

The new Hunter Festival 2009 boot is available in two colours, in either tall or short versions.

It has all the usual features of a Hunter wellington with an extra foot-stomping dose of style!  Metal work rivets and rings compliment the lace up front, and strap detailing finishes off a welly masterpiece.

If you’re looking for wellies to make you stand out from the crowd at this year’s Glastonbury Festival - this is surely the one!  But never fear, if you find these are out of your price bracket the Original Hunter range, and indeed last year’s Hunter Festival Wellies range, are both incredibly affordable and just as desirable.

Boat Race 2009

April 24th, 2009

Anyone watching the Oxbridge Boat Race 2009 will have spotted the Hunter wellington boots proudly worn by the Cambridge team.  Here we can see them training for the race in which they were defeated this time.  But never mind, there’s always next year.

We’re starting to think there’s not a distinguished outdoor event in the country, sporting, musical or otherwise, where Hunter wellingtons don’t make an appearance!

Athletes train in wellies!

April 22nd, 2009

Torrington Athletic Club members swapped their running shoes for wellington boots this week to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice South West in Fremington, Devon. The hospice is running a fund raising Wear Your Wellies Day on Friday this week, where staff and supporters are being encouraged to pay £1 each to wear their wellies to work or school.

To show their support athletic club members donned their club vests and decorated wellies for a one mile training run around the streets of Torrington, and awarded prizes for the best decorated wellies.

In addition, seven members of the club will raise funds for the children’s hospice by taking part in the Champion for Children’s Run later this month.

Potted wellies

April 17th, 2009

Check out this ingenious usage of a pair of old worn out wellies!

We think this is a fabulous idea and will be planting up the warehouse reception in a similar manner this Summer - so if you’ve returned any faulty wellies to us recently they might just be put to good use after all!

Edinburgh residents don their wellies and take to the water

April 6th, 2009

More than 300 volunteers are expected to clean up Edinburgh’s Water of Leith this month.

City residents are being encouraged into their wellies and down to the river banks in a bid to improve the river for wildlife and recreation.  The water is clean enough to support a range of wildlife including kingfishers and otters, but it is blighted by thoughtless dumping of shopping trolleys, tyres, cones, bikes, etc.

Children (accompanied) and adults are all welcome.  The next scheduled clean-up is on Sunday April 26th, meeting at Bell’s Mill Weir, near the Gallery of Modern Art, at 10am.  Please wear old clothes and wellies.
