York Designer Outlet has been transformed into a wintertime playground this year. Incorporating an ice rink, funfair and Santa’s grotto, the event is ideal for getting everyone in the festive mood – as long as you remember to wrap up warmly! Read on to find out our Christmasy clothing choices, with a country twist!

Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland includes the largest outdoor ice rink in the North of England – ‘The Ice Factor’. Skating around the giant 30ft Christmas tree in the centre of the rink will set everyone up nicely for a stop-off at the Ice Bar and Café, which as well as offering locally sourced food and drink, has a special range of winter warmers. Mulled wine, sloe gin and hot chocolate are all on offer to warm you up after a session on the ice – bound to revive you after a few slip-ups!

If skating isn’t your kind of thing, why not visit the Winter Wonderland funfair. The traditional carnival offers rides and attractions suitable for the whole family, and the games stalls and activities will keep everyone entertained. As well as the funfair the Winter Wonderland has a breathtaking reindeer forest, decorated with theatrical lighting and a festive atmosphere, and the Santa’s Grotto hidden within it is perfect for keeping the kids happy!

For your trip to Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland, you’ll definitely need to dress the part. Wellies will be a necessity for a walk around the forest, and you can easily swap them for a pair of ice skates. Why not try a pair of stylish Hunters, or even a pair of Le Chameau wellington boots as chosen by none other than royal favourite Kate Middleton!

As well as keeping your feet warm and dry, a trip to the Winter Wonderland is definitely an occasion to wrap up in scarves, hats and gloves. Our sister site and country and outerwear boutique, Out of the City, offer plenty of stylish festive options perfect for a wander round the reindeer forest or spin on the ice rink, and we’ve picked out some of our favourites. This Aigle blizzard scarf is not only thick, wooly and warm, but perfectly Christmassy with its festive design. We also love this beret - the warm red brings the best of Christmas in an understated way – no need to look like Santa! If you’d prefer to stay away from the Christmas colours and prints, these fur mittens will not only keep you stylishly toasty, but also tap in to the faux fur trend that’s everywhere this season.

As the event is set in the grounds of York Designer Outlet, there’s plenty of parking and it is easily reached directly by car or from Park and Ride services available in York city centre. York also offers a huge range of accommodation for overnight stays, from chain hotels to independent, luxury B&Bs. However you get there and wherever you stay, this really is the perfect opportunity to get all the family in the festive mood!

See you on the ice!

Best Wishes,

Welly Warehouse

The 179th Munich Oktoberfest has opened its doors to visitors from all over the world looking to experience traditional Bavarian culture. The first festival was held in 1810 and is renowned for its huge selections of beer and German food. The 16-day experience, taking play from Saturday 22 September to Sunday 7 October 2012, has so much to offer, it’s definitely worth a quick trip over the North Sea – whether it’s by train, plane or automobile!

As well as its culinary delights, Oktoberfest is also known for being the world’s largest fair. More than 6 million people attend the event every year, and the traditional games of skittles have given way to carousels and rollercoasters. However, the festival retains a lot of its original features. The Official Tapping of the Keg is a legendary Oktoberfest ritual, where the mayor of Munich is given the honour of opening the first key of Oktoberfest beer, giving all visitors permission to drink from then on. There are also parades throughout the streets of Munich, with breweries exhibiting decorated floats while dressed in full traditional costume.

Germany is renowned for its extensive selection of beer and this festival is the perfect showground. With 14 food and beer tents to choose from, you’ll have your work cut out sampling something from each! Whether it’s the sweet or savoury pastries found in Bodo’s Café Tent, Feisinger’s selection of cheese or Burtschers’s bratwurst, you’re sure to find something that takes your fancy. Make sure you sample Oktoberfest’s amber nectar – a celebrated aspect of the festival. There are strict guidelines over which beers are permitted to be sold at the festival, including that the beer must be brewed within Munich’s city limits, and must hold a minimum of 6% alcohol. We suggest you try as many hand-crafted exclusive beers as possible but be sure to spread the load and as always, remember to drink responsibly!

The easiest way to access Oktoberfest is to fly. Airline prices to fly direct from London this weekend start from £70 with Monarch Airlines. Other options include the Eurostar or catching a ferry, but both will require you to hire a car or take advantage of Germany’s excellent public transport links. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, the official Oktoberfest website has several special offers for local hotels, so take advantage while you can.

We think Oktoberfest looks like one of the best opportunities to make the most of the end of the festival season. Although the slightly higher temperatures in Germany might make it feel like a holiday, the forecasted rain for this weekend will definitely remind you of home. It’s worth packing a pair of wellies to keep your feet dry while you duck out of the cover of one beer tent into another! Why not grab a classic pair of ultra stylish Hunters and relax in the knowledge that our free next day delivery will have them to your door before you’ve even had time to find your suitcase!

If you’re eager to experience the spirit of a festival without sleeping in a leaky tent or drinking warm beer out of a paper cup, we may have the answer. Festival No. 6 makes its debut this year in the historic Portmeirion, Wales, seeing the whole of the village turn into a festival site. Taking place between 14-16 September 2012, the intimate music and arts festival is definitely sculpted for those who enjoy the finer things in life, whether they be champagne or clay pigeon shooting.

Surrounded by surreal Mediterranean architecture, Portmeirion is a unique and whimsical site, offering nature and eccentricity to all those who visit. Named after Patrick McGoohan’s character in the sixties cult TV series The Prisoner, the festival aims to inspire, with an eclectic mix of screenings, readings, performance art, installations and intimate talks. Really embracing the individual character of the environment, the festival features oyster and champagne bars aplenty, and a medieval castle perfect for dining before a stroll along the sandy shore. On the very edge of Snowdonia, this festival promises to help you escape the mundane, entering you into a world of possibilities. Festival goers are encouraged not to leave the site during their visit in order to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

The festival is curated by the spectacular team who also run events and festivals such as Snowbombing, The Warehouse Project, Lounge on the Farm, Parklife, and Beach Break Live. Taking over the whole of the island, you can catch a headline band such as New Order or Primal Scream in the colourful gardens; catch a comedian such as Phill Jupitus, English stand-up and improvised comedian, and favourite on the popular music quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks; or listen to some inspirational words from the likes of Caitlin Moran, an award-winning Times columnist, and author of the best-selling, How To Be A Woman. Other musical offerings include Spiritualized, the iconic DJ legends Francois K, Mr Scruff and Andrew Weatherall. Dance tents overlooking the white sandy bay are curated by Electric Elephant and alongside the River Dwyryd to the picturesque Estuary Stage curated by Caught By The River and Faber Social. Ranging from rock’n’roll to house, balearic to folk and Welsh male choirs, Festival No. 6 hopes to appeal to all ages and interests.

Outdoor arts specialists Walk the Plank have got involved and invite you to wander amongst their specially created, beautiful and enchanting Fire Garden. Flame lined paths beckon you to enter the burning glow of copper flowers that breathe fire, alongside intricately carved flaming flower boxes and scorching sculpture trees. Carl Barât will also be around to present an exclusive festival screening of The Libertines No Innocent Bystanders, a sight not to be missed. Carl will be around after for a short Q&A, followed by an exclusive acoustic performance of a number of The Libertine’s classics.

Luxury accommodation is in abundance in the form of tipis, yurts and hotels, although there is the option to camp if you’re keen to keep it real. There will be luxurious, cedar wood hot tubs and spas dotted around the festival so if you fancy losing some toxins after all that partying, look no further. Surrounded by such magnificent views, there really is no better way to unwind. Book in advance and one ticket will get you 2 hours of delightful distressing and detoxing. Luckily, there are still some day tickets for the festival left if you haven’t yet booked, check out the festival website for full details.

If you’re looking for some stylish and suitable footwear to see you through the weekend, check out our Joules Brown Dog Print wellies. New in, these luxurious wellies have exceptional cold weather resistance, so you won’t have to worry about any dips in the weather!

Hope to see you there!

The 6th - 9th of September will see Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight turned into the eclectic Bestival. Voted Fans’ Favourite Festival in the UK Festival awards last year, the boutique experience offers an exciting array of music, art, comedy, cabaret and more. With a huge amount of creative entertainment on offer and an amazing musical line-up, Bestival promises to be a fantastic way to round off the festival season – rain or shine!

Florence and the Machine, Beardyman and Friendly Fires are just a few of the massive acts confirmed to take the stage at this year’s festival, but if that doesn’t impress you, how does a live performance from the one and only Stevie Wonder sound? The soul legend will be playing some of his best hits, so get ready to dance along in the mud to ‘Superstition’ and ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’. Michael Kiwanuka and Ren Harvieu will also be on hand to administer some soothing acoustic sessions when festival feet get tired and heavy. Bestival also has a promising selection of DJ appearances including Radio 1’s Annie Mac and dubstep pioneers Skream and Benga.

While Bestival’s music scene looks to be huge this year, they certainly haven’t let the side down on other forms of festival entertainment. If you need a break from dancing or if you lose your voice during a mass sing-along, take a velvet-covered seat in their Lost Picture Show which will be showing vintage cinema classics from the twenties onward. The Crafternoon Tea Club allows you to create your very own Bestival souvenir during DIY craft sessions, or why not take in a foodie demo from the Camp Cooks. Bestival’s creative streak is evident in their original forms of entertainment, so make sure you don’t disappoint by participating in their innovative fancy-dress tradition. The theme this year is wildlife, so let your imagination go crazy – why not take some inspiration from this half-price pair of furry wellies or a slightly more conventional animal print wellies.

Even the camping at Bestival takes on an artistic spin. While the site’s entertainment areas include the Stardust Field, Wishing Tree Field and the Ambient Forest, the campsite names are similarly ingenious. Campsite hubs are colour-coded, and each has its own musical title based around this idea. Who wouldn’t want to stay in 99 Red Balloons, Blue Moon or Barry White? If that isn’t enough to convince you that a tent and a sleeping bag is enough for the long weekend, Bestival also has The Wild Copse - an exclusive premium campsite with plenty of boutique options available including yurts, cloudhouses and bell tents. The camping area also holds the Soul Park – a healing area offering massage therapies, meditation, hot tubs and saunas perfect for a quiet moment or taking time out to recharge.

Statistics

Chance of rain – According to forecasts, the Isle of Wight is meant to see sunny spells and minimal showers throughout the Bestival long weekend.

Average rainfall last year – Despite rainy predictions, Bestival 2011 saw a decent amount of sun. However, if our topsy-turvy weather is anything to go by, the fine predictions for this year’s festival could well be turned on their head again – so don’t chance it and make sure you go prepared for a rainfall!

Number of people attending –
 55,000

Mud Factor

Although the weather man may say sunny spells, we don’t entirely trust him. We’re giving Bestival a 3 out of 5 Mud Factor rating this year – just in case! Make sure you pack your Sunday best wellies to avoid any embarrassing caught in the rain moments. Our Rampant Sport offer of a free festival poncho with every pair of Rampant wellies is still on - so make the most of it and keep dry and comfortable. Just don’t forget the fancy dress!

As recommended by us here at Welly Warehouse, Wilderness Festival carried out its second year of festival fun in the Cotswolds last month, and was a great success! The combination of incredible live music, artistic events and foodie banquets really cemented Wilderness as one of the most exciting and original festivals around – definitely one to remember for next year! As well as the huge array of fantastic acts, we were equally impressed by this year’s festival goers who really pushed the boat out with their festival style.

Luckily, Hunter were on hand to document the event along with the best ways to wear their waterproof must-haves. We all know wellies are a festival must and Hunters always go down a storm - not surprising, seen regularly on the feet of festival royalty such as Kate Moss and Lily Allen, they are the ultimate in festival chic. Read on to find out more of this years key trends and to watch the charming little Hunter video!

Flower Headbands

No festival is complete without a flowered headpiece. We spotted delicate daisy chains, bold and extravagant rose crowns and even single blossoms tucked behind ears- and we were equally impressed by them all!

Denim

From cut-off denim dungarees, to denim playsuits and denim jackets, Wilderness folk clearly couldn’t get enough of their denim this year. We think light, bleached denim looks perfect in summer, and provides an ideal backdrop for colours, patterns, tie-dye and of course lots of glitter!

Prints

You lot do like your prints - printed smock dresses, printed scarves and printed shorts, you name it, we saw it. Ditsy floral prints were in abundance alongside bold graphic shapes, nautical stripes, checks and polka dots.

Animal Accessories

No festival would be complete without an array of cat ears, feathers, wings and painted faces! Watch out for the troop of pied-piper foxes dressed in top hats, tails and waistcoats playing trumpets and violins in the video below - they’re harder to spot than you might think!

Eager to see what all the fuss is about? Watch the video here!

If all that Hunter action has left you hungry, why not check out our Hunter festival wellies, all available with free next day delivery - make a fashionable investment today that will see you through all seasons!

Creamfields festival began in 1998, established by the famous Liverpudlian clubbing brand Cream. Not only held in the UK, Creamfields presents the best dance artists throughout the world with festivals in Australia, Brazil and Spain. The UK event, however, has been voted Best Dance Event three years running in the UK Festival Awards, proving we can hold more than our own with a record attendance of 55,000 last year. Creamfields 2012 will be held in Daresbury in Cheshire over the August Bank Holiday weekend from the 24 - 26 August.

The three days of dance music kicks off with three silent discos hosted by acts like Kissy Sell Out, True Tiger and Jet Project. The headphones come off on Saturday when the three main stages come to life. The North Stage, South Stage and Annie Mac Presents Stage will all see huge names like David Guetta, Example, Avicii and The Chemical Brothers performing to crowds of dance-lovers. Sunday will see a similar line-up of stellar acts stepping up to the decks including Calvin Harris, Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe and Paul Van Dyk.

Creamfields focuses on bringing amazing music to its festival-goers, but still brings in some other entertainment to enhance your festival experience. The Vanity Van will be on hand to administer some much-needed touch ups with makeup and manicures for the girls and hair stylists for the boys. The Ibiza Angels will treat anyone suffering from festival weariness to luxurious massages and spa treatments.

Camping at Creamfields is located around individual hubs for each campsite. Containing their own seating and relaxation area as well as an observation tower, they are the perfect meeting place to catch up at the end of the day before heading back to your tent. The festival also offers a Festibarrow service – just hire a Festibarrow as you enter the campsite and load it up with all your stuff for easy transportation to your pitching area. As well as Standard camping a Luxury option includes pre-pitched tents or, for the more adventurous, beaupads or luxpads. Unique to Creamfields is a third alternative of hospitality camping. A hospitality ticket guarantees all holders to fast entry into the festival, access to an exclusive hospitality arena, a complimentary meal each day of your stay and a dedicated campsite with extra facilities.

Statistics

Chance of rain – The weather forecasts predict cloudy and rainy conditions throughout the entire Creamfields weekend, with sunny spells peeking through with a bit of luck.

Average rainfall last year – Unprecedented rainfall meant there were risks to public safety due to campsites flooding. Access to the campsites was limited to those willing to walk in mud up to their knees!

Number of people attending – 55,000

Mud Factor

Based on last year’s torrential conditions and this year’s miserable Summer weather, we have to give Creamfields a 5/5 Mud Factor rating. Even if you’re lucky enough to be camping in the exclusive Hospitality area, taking a risk with the rain is a definite no no – while you might be protected from the elements at bed time no-one wants soggy feet while dancing to Calvin Harris or David Guetta! Do yourself a favour and pick up a pair of Welly Warehouse Festival Wellies and a Welly Warehouse Waterproof to make sure the weather doesn’t dampen your dance festival experience!

First held in Reading in 1961 and branching up to Leeds in 1999, the legendary Reading and Leeds continues this year taking place 24 - 25 of August at Little John’s Farm in Reading and Bramham Park in Leeds. 160,000 music fans will take over the two sites to see huge headline acts including The Cure, Kasabian and Foo Fighters. As well as being treated to performances from legendary bands and musicians, for the first time ever all Weekend Ticket holders will be given free beers and breakfast baps (soft drinks and veggie options included!) to rouse festival-goers from their tents ready for a day of music.

As well as favourite indie acts such as Bombay Bicycle Club, the quirky chart-toppers Florence and the Machine and the controversial rap collective Odd Future, Reading and Leeds’ NME/Radio 1, Dance and Lock Up stages will all showcase even more exciting acts to suit everyone’s tastes. Every genre is covered, from punk-rock and ska-punk, (see Anti Flag and Less Than Jake) to electronic, dance and UK garage (try Scroobius Pip, Justice and Katy B), so you are sure to find something to suit your musical tastes. The BBC Introducing stage will also be on hand to launch new bands and acts into the mainstream, so make sure to catch Crooker Tongues, Escape to New York or Max Raptor.

The Reading and Leeds festivals are renowned for their musical offerings, but there’s also plenty of other events and activities going on across both sites to keep you entertained. Comedy acts like Stephen K Amos and Al Murray will keep the laughs coming whatever the weather, while the Silent Disco Arena means the party can continue long into the night. If you’d prefer a bit of quiet time after a day of mosh pits, their cinema tent will be showing the latest box office and independent releases and should be a welcome hideaway. Fashion-conscious festival goers may also be interested in the River Island Exchange - where old pairs of River Island jeans and t-shirts can be swapped for brand new ones free of charge to revamp your muddy festival outfit.

Camping at Reading and Leeds is the usual festival fare with tents and campervans welcome, but the more adventurous can indulge in boutique camping options. A bespoke village of ‘Podpads’ include waterproof and secure huts, raised beds and power points so both you and your phone or camera can recharge in comfort and style. Bell tents and yurts are also on offer for an overnight stay, promising to keep you and your belongings rain and mud free!

Statistics

Chance of rain - Rain is forecasted throughout the weekend for Reading, while Leeds is predicted to be cloudy with scattered showers.

Average rainfall last year - Both Reading and Leeds saw waterlogged conditions last year, with campsites turning swamp-like. Wellies definitely saved the day!

Number of people attending - 160,000 combined attendance for both parks.

Mud Factor

Reading and Leeds is arguably the music festival to be seen at, holding the UK high in its musical offerings. However, the UK is also renowned for its awful festival weather – so we can’t give Reading and Leeds any less than a 4/5 Mud Factor rating. Whether you’re counting on your tent to protect you from the sludge or if you’re not taking any chances and arranging a yurt or Podpad, your feet need their own form of shelter! As well as Welly Warehouse’s huge collection of affordable wellies with free next day delivery, why not pick up a pair of Welly Warehouse’s welly socks while you’re at it so at least your feet will be comfy and dry – even if the rest of you might not be!

With the intention of appealing to both Northeners and Southerners, V Festival offers an exciting mix of music and entertainment up and down the country. Held in Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire with acts moving between the two locations throughout the weekend, the festival has been recognised as one of the UK’s leading since 1996.

Although predominantly a rock and indie affair, V offers a wide selection of music to satisfy all tastes. Headliners The Stone Roses and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds promise a Britpop session of Madchester proportions, alongside sure to be memorable sets from the Happy Mondays, Tom Jones, Madness, The Proclaimers and Human League. The Killers and Snow Patrol play on Saturday night at Chelmsford where festival classics such as ‘Mr Brightside’ and ‘Chasing Cars’ promise to spark a mass sing along. As well as showcasing a range of chart-topping well-established acts, V also acknowledges breakthrough performers like r’n’b singer Frank Ocean and rapper Childish Gambino.

If you’re a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of musical acts on offer, V Festival’s own comedy arena, the Glee Club, is sure to provide some comedic relief. Tim Minchin, Sean Lock and Justin Moorhouse are a few of the excellent comedians on the bill. Other entertainment areas are themed around the festival’s sponsors. This year, Southern Comfort are creating a Louisiana-style part area, and Lucozade will be holding challenges and activities with festival themed prizes up for grabs. As well as entertainment, the festival has created two food areas - the Gourmet Garden and V Healthy - where you can pick up anything from a venison sausage roll, to a freshly cooked risotto or a wood-fired pizza, the perfect festival comfort food!

V’s camping arrangements include the usual festival options - campervans are permitted and there are several pitching areas for tents. If you don’t fancy roughing it, V offers its own specialist luxury camping services - V style. Accommodation is hand-built before your arrival and taken down after - so no pesky tent pegs to remove. The restricted area even has its own dedicated relaxation spa complete with rejuvenating treatments, and a fully-stocked beauty room with hairdryers and straighteners to sort out any bedhead. V Style campers also have access to an exclusive hospitality area within the main arena to watch the acts in VIP style.

Statistics

Chance of rain – Weather forecasts suggest Chelmsford is likely to see sunny spells on Saturday, but showers throughout Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, it seems Staffordshire’s entire weekend will be subjected to rain which will be especially heavy on Sunday.

Average rainfall last year – V 2011 remained dry and bright throughout the weekend, but based on our Summer weather this year we doubt V 2012 will be quite so lucky! However, some sunny spells seem inevitable so fingers crossed!

Number of people attending – 160,000 combined attendance for both parks.

Mud Factor

The weather forecast doesn’t look good for V Festival this year so we give it a 4/5 Mud Factor rating. Whether you’re going for the rock acts, pop acts or up and comers, be sure to take your festival wellies and waterproofs. Worried you’ve left it too late? We’ve got all bases covered! Check out our Collinson Festival Pack with a free “Rampart” Festival Poncho (and free next day delivery) guaranteed to keep you dry all weekend.

Strawberry Fields Festival is now in its third year, bringing an exciting mix of music and entertainment to Cattows Farm in the National Forest of Leicestershire. Held from Friday 10 - Sunday 12 August 2012, the festival is committed to hosting upcoming and local musical talent alongside big, more established acts – and this year is no different.

To give you an idea of the eclectic music on offer, the headliners of Strawberry Fields 2012 include the RnB singer-songwriter Labrinth, the new rave, dance-punk act Hadouken! and the indie Britpop band The Charlatans. The Strawberry Jam Stage is the arena where future chart-toppers have been given an opportunity to get themselves heard, so as well as catching sets from the headliners why not check out bands like By The Rivers or Red N Pink before they hit the mainstream.

Aside from the music, a huge attraction of the festival is the Strawberry Glam Vintage Fair. With racks upon racks of vintage clothing and accessories, make sure you leave space in your bag for a few purchases (but don’t sacrifice the tent!). After a spot of shopping, why not treat yourself to a session in one of the pampering tents – massage therapy and beauty specialists are on hand with treatments specially designed for a festival-weary body. If you’d rather not slow down, be sure to check out the beach themed DJ area and enormous fun fair - even more fun after dark!

The Strawberry Fields campsite is just a 2 minute walk from the main area so you don’t have to worry about finishing the party early. On arrival, why not take advantage of their “festaxi” service – 6 seater golf buggies that take you and your friends right to your camping spot so you can unpack your bags and pitch your tent with ease! If you fancy something a little more special, Strawberry Fields’ VIP area includes luxury bell tents fully fitted with airbeds, tables and lamps, as well as fairy lights and some traditional festival bunting. You can also purchase Quiet Camping passes, ideal for families or you can always take along your campervan.

Statistics

Chance of rain – The week before the festival is predicted to see plenty of light rain showers and it’s likely that this will continue into the festival weekend itself.

Average rainfall last year – While last year’s festival kept fairly dry in the day, early evening saw heavy downpours typical of an English summer!

Number of people attending – Attracting 3000 festival goers in its first year, the third Strawberry Fields is set to pull in an even larger crowd due to the increased popularity – expect 5000+.

Mud Factor

Given the unpredictable nature of the current climate, we’ve given this festival a mud factor rating of 3/5, meaning you’d be silly not to pack your wellies! However, if you’re planning on purchasing some unique frocks from the Strawberry Glam Vintage Fair, one pair might not be enough. With our huge choice of affordable festival wellies, most under £20, we’re sure you’ll find a couple of pairs ideal for matching with some exciting vintage finds!

Wilderness Festival takes place at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire between 10th - 12th August 2012. Created by the people behind Secret Garden Party and Lovebox, the festival has a similar vibe to Latitude but on a smaller, slightly more grown up scale. Offering a diverse selection of music, theatre, talks, panel debates, late-night parties and mouth-watering food, this festival is perfect for the sophisticated with a silly side. Such a colourful array of experiences hopefully nods towards the future for festivals, offering succulent food, and even some cooking lessons placing more emphasis on the finer things in life.

Cornbury Park, home to Lord and Lady Rotherwick, is a Cotswold Country estate near Charlbury in the heart of Oxfordshire. The stunning 17th century house is surrounded by ancient forest, lakes, farmland and a deer park, creating a truly unique festival backdrop. Last year's Wilderness was named the UK’s ‘Best New Festival’ at the Festival Awards UK, with over 10,000 festival-goers in attendance - highly impressive for its debut.

Going beyond the normal boundaries of a music festival experience, Wilderness features a stunning selection of artistic experiences put together by award winning curators, pioneering artists, combined with more traditional values taken from its historical settings. Wychwood Fair was hosted on the same ground, historically one of the largest and oldest gatherings in England, growing during the late 18th Century into an enchanting fairground of fun and frivolity. Wilderness embraces theatre, debates and outdoor pursuits, guaranteed to get your brain ticking. Highlights include Secret Forum, where leaders and doers from various disciplines aim to educate, entertain, and generally raise some interesting questions, with a dash of comedy for good measure and perhaps some cabaret to keep you guessing. Also not to be missed is The School of Life, a company based in a small shop in Central London, bringing to the festival good ideas for everyday life, imaginative conversation and plenty of inspiration.

Wilderness cherishes itself as being a family-friendly festival, with an emphasis on craft, offering artistic workshops, circus skills classes and woodland walks. If you are planning on bringing little ones, be sure not to miss the spectacular storytellers from The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, guaranteed to entertain children and adults alike. Also featured in the Kids Area, The Flying Seagulls, a team of entertainers bringing a bold and colourful menu of activities. Expect some seagull silliness in the form of balloon sculpting, comedy sketches, magic tricks and alternative morning aerobics.

Highlights of the weekend include the Saturday night Midnight Masked Ball, this year hosted by The Old Vic Tunnels and The Secret Garden Party’s offering, Rise of the Tribes, sure to keep you entertained throughout the night.

Farmfestival’s ethos is one of independence. Shunning all corporate sponsorship, the event is self sufficient and reliant, shown in their fair pricing and relaxed on site atmosphere, perfect for families and friends alike. Held on Gilcombe Farm in Somerset, taking place 27th - 28th July 2012, the festival offers four live music stages, a range of entertainment and plenty of local, organic food.

Music wise, Farmfestival offers an enormous range of acts. There aren’t many huge headliners so it’s the perfect opportunity to seek out some new and exciting bands to add to your music collection. Why not try the acoustic duo Demons of Ruby Mae, whose folksy, bluesy sound should set a laid back tone to your weekend – perfect with a pint of local cider in hand! Later, you could turn up the tempo with DJ Louie Louie, who will be playing a unique mix of ‘50's R&B, 60's garage rock, rockabilly/R&R, surf rock and Northern Soul.

Aside from the music, Farmfestival really comes into its own with its selection of activities and entertainment. Offering a huge selection of activities for kids, the festival’s family values are evident – the arts and crafts tent, assault course and face painting should tick all the boxes with any young festival goer! The announcement of their own ‘Farm Olympics’ this year includes events like bale hurdles and potato sack racing, but more importantly, this is where the festival’s ‘welly wanging’ comes into play. Simply throw a welly as far as you can, minimal effort and maximum laughs - there really is no excuse not to take part in this one!

If you’re planning an overnight stay, camping and parking is absolutely free – part of their dedication to keeping costs low. They also offer a separate family camping area, which promises a more secluded environment. The festival allows you to bring your own alcohol, and disposable BBQs and camping stoves are permitted, so why not pack up a picnic basket? If you’d rather let someone else do the cooking, the hog roast and stalls of local fare will satisfy even the fussiest of taste buds.

Statistics

Chance of rain – The weather forecast seems to suggest a reasonable weekend for Farmfestival. Temperatures are predicted to reach 18 degrees with not even a millimeter of rain.

Average rainfall last year – The weather in 2011 made records with the weekend seeing downpours 18% heavier than the average amount of Summer rainfall.

Number of people attending – The number of attendees has grown steadily since their first event in 2006, which had a crowd in the low hundreds. While the popularity of the festival has increased hugely, it still remains an intimate affair, making it perfect for a chilled weekend.

Mud Factor

The lack of forecasted rain this year means we give Farmfestival a 2/5 Mud Factor rating. However, this festival is farm by name and farm by nature (tweed jacket and piece of straw optional), making a good pair of wellingtons essential, especially if you plan on entering the welly wanging competition! If you’re heading to the festival with little ones in tow, why not make sure you’re all kitted out in preparation with our choice of children’s wellies.

We suggest you get practicing in your garden early to ensure yourselves a Farm Olympics gold medal or two!

GlobalGathering, as the name suggests, is global – the festivals are found worldwide including Russia, Belarus, and South Korea as well as the UK. The UK’s GlobalGathering is found in Stratford-upon-Avon, at the Long Marston Airfield, on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of July. The annual festival features arenas from famous club nights like Hospitality and Godskitchen, showcasing the best acts in dance music.

The Main Stage headliners for this year’s festival include big names like Tinie Tempah, Chase and Status and Labrinth. However, GlobalGathering really comes into its own with its selection of smaller arenas, curated by various club nights, DJs and radio stations. Highlights include Rinse FM’s stage which features the likes of Ms Dynamite and Magnetic Man, showcasing the urban music the radio station is known for, and the recording company Digital Soundboy’s selection of acts such as Nero and Flux Pavillion. GlobalGathering is all about the music – this festival isn’t one for add ons, expect less on the entertainment and amusement stalls side, more dedication to the music you love.

Camping is free with a weekend ticket, and the campsite offers its own bar, café and even a dedicated camping store – perfect for picking up that sleeping bag you forgot to pack! If the idea of hammering in some tent pegs isn’t for you, GlobalGathering has a huge selection of other accommodation options. You could choose a pre-pitched tent set up ready and waiting for your arrival, VIP camping in a specific VIP area with luxury facilities, or make a more unusual choice - how does a tipi, pop up hotel or a PodPad sound? Go on, we dare you!

Statistics

Chance of rain – Weather forecasts are suggesting that the last third of July will be the warmest and driest of the month. With no rain predicted for Friday and only around 1mm on Saturday, fingers crossed GlobalGathering will be fairly drizzle-free!

Average rainfall last year – GlobalGathering 2011 experienced both highs and lows of rainfall. The weekend started with heavy downpours but moved into a cloudy and overcast (but thankfully dry) second day.

Number of people attending – 50,000

Mud Factor

GlobalGathering might be a global collection of festivals but we know if one country is getting rain this year, it’s probably the UK and us Brits know better than to take any chances! The forecasts however are predicting mainly dry conditions, meaning we give this festival only a 2/5 on the mud factor rating. That said, don’t forget the essentials - what English festival outfit is complete without a pair of wellies? Why not represent with a pair of Union Jacks and show the rest of the world that the UK GlobalGathering is one of the best.

Now in its seventh year, Latitude festival will be held from the 12th - 15th of July. As well as the usual festival fare of bands and musicians, Latitude offers an eclectic mix of theatrical groups, dance performances, cabaret and live comedy to satisfy even the most experienced festival goer. With the festival evidently scoring high on entertainment, we ask the question everyone wants to know - how does Latitude rank on the Mud Factor?

Latitude’s stages are based around the countrified surroundings of Henham Park, Suffolk. With designated areas entitled ‘The Faraway Forest’, ‘In the Woods’ and ‘The Waterfront Stage’, it’s not surprising to find that the location is practically lakeside. Headliners include acts such as Paul Weller and Elbow, alongside up and coming acts like Lana Del Rey and Los Campesinos. As well as an impressive selection of music, you can also catch a live stand up routine from Tim Minchin or Jack Dee, a BAFTA film screening or a fashion show hosted by Jamie Laing of Made In Chelsea fame. With such an enormous range of entertainment spread out over a huge site of fields and forests, we already predict a fair bit of mud!

Latitude offers specific areas for campervan parking, so if you’re lucky enough to own one and are willing to pay an extra £40 on top of your ticket, your stay could be a fairly dry and comfy one. However, if you’re in the majority and keen to carry on camping, rest assured there is plenty of space to pitch your tent. There are five camping zones – Red, Green, Blue, Yellow and Family – with shower facilities, cash points and food and drink outlets only a short walk away. The festival is growing in popularity so make sure you arrive early to secure a good spot, preferably hillside to avoid any tent flooding!

Checklist

Don’t forget:

- Your ticket – obviously!
- A tent
- Sleeping bag
- Small essentials - torch, towel and wet wipes
- All weather clothing - think layers so you can cool down or warm up easily, a good waterproof, strong shoes and welly socks to prevent blisters
- Camera, phone and money – the festival has cash machines if you’d rather withdraw cash on site, although be prepared for a lengthy queue
- And last but not least, remember to keep any valuables with you at all times, it’s difficult to lock a tent up!

Statistics

Chance of rain - Weather forecasts predict moderate rain throughout the week before the festival and a few showers during - 70%

Average rainfall last year - 2011’s Latitude saw thunder and lightning, storms, heavy winds and rain two out of three days. The mud caused lengthy jams for motorists leaving at the end of the weekend, so you might want to consider planning an early exit this time round!

Number of people attending - 35,000

Mud Factor

Even a drop of drizzle is guaranteed to make the ground soggy fairly quickly, therefore we have given this year’s Latitude 4/5 on the mud factor. Check out our selection of festival wellies now to beat the rush and rest assured you’re ready for any downfalls. Maybe even stock up on two pairs, nothing like being extra prepared!

Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge has been spotted repeatedly over recent months in her Le Chameau wellies – at polo matches, walking her new puppy Lupo, and this week taking part in a charity camping trip with inner city schoolchildren.

The press seem to love telling us how much these wellies cost!  So we thought it was time to set the record straight:  What makes Le Chameau wellingtons the price they are?  Are they worth it?  And what are the options if you want to get the same look without spending the earth?  We at Welly Warehouse naturally have the answers!

Le Chameau has been manufacturing premium quality wellington boots in France since 1927.  Our MD visited the factory personally a few years ago to see for herself the process from beginning to end, and was delighted to find that these days, just as in 1927, every pair of Le Chameau boots is hand crafted out of natural rubber by master bootmakers.  It’s no wonder Le Chameau has earned its reputation as the world’s most respected wellington bootmaker.

Kate has chosen the Vierzon Lady – a variation on Le Chameau’s best selling Vierzonord, with the addition of a luxurious full grain Italian leather lining.  At £225 they are not the most expensive boot in the range – Vierzon ladytheir flagship boot the Chasseur, which also has a full leather lining, also has a waterproof full length side zip and sells at £285 a pair.  If you have the budget available, Kate’s choice is a superb one.  Favoured by serious fieldsports enthusiasts the world over, these boots are luxurious, comfortable, incredibly stylish, and come in varying width fittings so that you can achieve optimum fit.  And with the adjustable side buckle as well, you’d struggle to find a better fitting pair of wellington boots.

But if the thought of spending £225 on a pair of muddies isn’t for you (and let’s face it, it’s certainly not for everyone!), we’ve got some stylish alternatives in a range of price brackets that will make you look every bit the part when you’re out in the country.

LE CHAMEAU WELLIES ON A BUDGET
Fancy the brand without the price tag?  Take a look at Le Chameau All Tracks Country wellingtons at £70.  These also come in unisex and ladies calf fittings so that you can get the best fit, and with a cotton lining and simple, elegant style, won’t break the bank.

LOVE THE COLOUR
Le Chameau’s signature green is hard to find elsewhere, but the next best thing would be the Musto Holmside or Pelton which are also an unusual khaki colour.  At £120 to £150 though, if you like the look of these you may also want to consider the Le Chameau Vierzonord – the neoprene lined version of Kate’s Vierzon boot at £145.

Hunter greenTHE COUNTRY LOOK
If it’s just the overall ‘country’ effect you’re after, you should consider both Barbour wellies and Hunter wellies which fall into the £50 to £70 price bracket.  With an array of colours to choose from these are perennial favouritesRok Windsor that never go out of fashion, and these days are just as at home in town as they are in the country.

GO GREEN FOR LESS
Our best value welly at the moment is undoubtedly the Rok Windsor.  Available in a choice of colours, the elegant olive green represents outstanding value for money – at half price reduced from £49.95 to only £24.99 – including free next day delivery – you’d be mad not to.

Are you feeling patriotic?  This Summer with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June, and the Olympics in July and August, the British Flag is everywhere and on everything, and wellies are no exception!

The highlight of our welly season simply has to be the Hunter Brit Wellington Boot - a glorious Hunter Original welly with a vintage scarred Union Jack flag screen printed onto a waterproof linen fabric leg.  What a way to show your patriotism in the fields this Summer!

Also winging their way to us on a pallet even as we speak, is the Joules Jack welly - For Queen and Countryside!  This Royal Blue rubber wellington bears all the hallmarks of the famous Joules welly, with the Union Jack boldly emblazoned on the front.

But not everyone will want to shout their patriotic feelings quite so loudly, so there's always a more subtle choice available - how about the Hunter Original wellington in plain red?  Or glossy quilted pillarbox red in the Regent Savoy?  And if red's not your colour, we've got Hunter Original in Gloss Navy - or for those that like a little extra height, the Wedge Welly in stunning Duchess Blue

The options are endless.  Whether you want the full Union Jack, or something more subtle in red or blue, rest assured we've got the wellington boot for you!

Umbrella and welly sales surge on wet weather

Retail sales might be sinking as cash-strapped consumers tighten their belts but that Great British summer staple, the umbrella, is flying off the shelves.

Met Office data show that rainfall for June and July was 13pc above average Photo: Reuters

Sales of Wellington boots, which usually only pick up in October, are also doing well. Online retailer Welly Warehouse has had to employ more staff to manage the early surge in demand, while M&S said sales of wellies and ladies' knee-high boots almost doubled on last year.

By comparison, total sales across M&S, excluding VAT, inched up by just 3.2pc in the thirteen weeks to July 2.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said last week that its figures show the value of sales across the UK modestly higher in July, but that did not represent any growth in volume of sales.

Stephen Robertson, BRC director-general, said: "All the growth in sales values came from inflation and January's increase in VAT; people are actually buying fewer goods than a year ago."

Britons appear to be drowning their sorrows as a result of the wet weather, and indulging in typically cold-weather drinks.

Marks & Spencer said sales of red wine picked up 21.6pc for the last two months; while sales of rosé ticked up just 7pc. Meanwhile, the company's best-selling product last week was tea.

The washout has dampened spirits at other companies. Sales at Britvic dropped 8pc in July as customers spurned cold drinks.

B&Q saw a similar washout, with sales of outdoor seasonal products such as barbecues and garden furniture down by more than 20pc.

The figures should come as no surprise. Met Office data show that rainfall for June and July was 13pc above average.
